Transportation

mscvanwebimage016.jpgSIL is providing transportation services to support commuters and the growing numbers of our neighbors affected by joblessness.  Beginning in April, 2009, we will provide daily service from Kokomo to Indianapolis for persons who want to commute and for job matching and preparation outreaches at Christ Lutheran.  You may call Morning star Church (MSC) at 765-452-7166 or call SIL directly 765-438-4658 to schedule your ride.  The van leaves at about 6 am and returns at about 6 pm.  The cost is $5/day for commuters and free for job seekers.41009_02

Once again:  The van leaves Kokomo about 5:40 am and returns about 5:50 pm.  Scheduled stops are at US 31 and SR 28 (Tipton) and 96th and Meridian in Indianapolis.  We have optional stops for the Indygo downtown Express Shuttle.  We also have car service from the drop point in Indianapolis to Broad Ripple and 30th and Arlington.  We hope to have west-side shuttles shortly.  The ride is free for job seekers (referred by CLC) and $5/Day for commuters.

Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) sponsors free-of-charge Jobless Support Groups for the jobless in our community. The purpose of the support group is to:

Provide emotional support to you in your job search:
  • encourage you to share what is working, what is not working, and discover what you need to do differently to obtain employment
  • obtain pertinent information, which will enhance your ability to acquire employment

In a Jobless Support Group, you can learn more about

  • marketing yourself
  • designing a job search plan
  • creating your résumé
  • developing a network
  • mining for leads
  • managing the interview
  • coping with stress
  • landing your job

Note: Other relevant information is shared with participants depending on their wants and needs.

Dr. Walt Doering, who has extensive professional experience working with jobless workers, serves as coordinator of the groups.
