It’s Not About Us
A Servant Evangelism Ministry
Our Mission
By word and deed, to love people into relationship with Jesus Christ and to show God’s love in a practical way as we work to give away to the world what we have been given by God.
Our Vision
We work to empower an ever-increasing number of surrendered and transformed people who love God and others to:
- Commit to the idea that this is not about them, but all about Jesus.
- Transfix participants and recipients with His story and His heart for their city.
- Create are seed throwers and fire starters, hope peddlers and grace-givers, risk takers and dreamers, young and old.
- Join in with anyone who tells the story of Jesus.
- Empower the poor, strengthen the weak, embrace the outcast, seek the lost.
- Serve together, play together, worship together, and live life together.
- Change the community because God sent us.….
We believe that small things done with great love will change the world.

I work for a church in Shelbyville, TN. We would like to do a 2c stamp give away on the 14th of april when the price increases. Our local post office told us we could not be on their property. Did you have to get a special permit to be on PO property?

Hi Nikki,
We are so excited for you. We received the exact message the first year from our local post office. But as the pictures tell, it didn’t work out that way.
Here is our understanding. The government (yes THE PEOPLE own the facility) cannot grant permission to any group to use a facility for any purpose other than designated. We attach two (one state and one federal) stamps to out card you see on the website, and in less than 30 minutes, they are gone. No questions asked.
We believe that if we asked, we would be told again that we are not permitted – so we quit asking. We also believe that if we had recruited or promoted our church, it might have been a problem, so we don’t do that.
We also had an “Unofficial” message that if we were there, no one would try to remove us. So check the unofficial channels as well.
The worst scenario would be a confrontation – not good for anyone, so avoid that. If asked to leave, do it.
Just a simple act of kindness that any citizen might chose to perform for our fellow citizens.
If that operating mode does not fit for you, consider adjoining property (with their permission) or the sidewalk (where the entrance drive way crosses) which is also public property.
We generally try to get permission, but when we get good advice (“there is the official policy and there is the actual policy) we mover forward. If you cannot overcome the problem at the Post Office, consider Super Markets, Malls, or places. We believe that God will provide a way for His work. If that does not come, move on.
Thank you for writing us and for your comments. If you get up our way be sure to stop by and visit an event…we’ll be out there every week this
summer.

Do you have any suggestions (cases, links, etc.) for doing servant evangelism on a state-run college campus where the students (or at least the US ones) are especially cynical about such things?

Thank you Bob, for the work you are doing. We enjoyed your link and page. Now about the campus. We have been sent over 30 SE events this year from colleges. We don’t think the “state run” issue is really a problem. See the Post Office comment above. It would be good to partner with a local church so that you can begin to create relationships and have a base that people understand to link people with assets. Here are some of the ideas:
Starbucks provided “Sampler” bags to students at Louisville who pass the 1 ounce bags (with a card attached) in the dorms
Christian Students at Texas provide campus escorts and designated drivers
Students at UNC are providing free monitoring, folding and even delivery of laundry
In a partnership with local churches, Loyola studnets hand out warm cookies in the dorms once a month
Several christian students wrote us to tell how they gave time to tutoring, retirement communities, and homeless shelters….and how fellow students began to see and wanted to help….it’s not about us, you know
Don’t forget Christmas wrapping. UMass students wrapped over 300 presents for students rushing to get things done to be able to be home for the holidays.
We were touched by the note from students at VT who sent us the picture we posted (We are all Hokies now) and told us of their many outreaches to comfort people who experience losses. Google it and you will see how building relationships allow us to access assets (Pastors, counsellors, etc) and provide hope when everything safe is ripped from us.
