A Second Van in Service

41009_02We’re growing again. SIL transportation services to support commuters and our neighbors affected by joblessness is growing thanks to a donation from Coordinated Assistance Ministries (CAM). We will soon have two vans in service. The second van will allow us to leave Kokomo in half-hour intervals and do likewise in Indianapolis on the return trip. This will help us serve more commuters with varing schedules. mscvanweb

We are providing daily service from Kokomo to Indianapolis for persons who want to commute and for job matching / preparation outreaches at Christ Lutheran. You may call Morning Star Church (MSC) at 765-452-7166 or call SIL directly 765-438-4658 to schedule your ride. The van leaves at about 6 am and returns at about 6 pm. The cost is $5/day for commuters and free for job seekers.

The vans will leave 30 minutes apart departing Kokomo about 5:50 and 6:20 am and returning about 5:50 and 6: 20 pm. Scheduled stops are at US 31 and SR 28 (Tipton) and 96th and Meridian in Indianapolis. We have optional stops for timage016.jpghe Indygo downtown Express Shuttle. The early van also has car service from the drop point in Indianapolis to Broad Ripple and 30th and Arlington. The later van continues to 38th and Meridian. The ride is free for job seekers (referred by CLC) and $5/Day for commuters.

Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) sponsors free-of-charge Jobless Support Groups for the jobless in our community. The purpose of the support group is to:

provide emotional support to you in your job search
encourage you to share what is working, what is not working, and discover what you need to do differently to obtain employment
obtain pertinent information, which will enhance your ability to acquire employment
In a Jobless Support Group, you can learn more about

marketing yourself
designing a job search plan
creating your résumé
developing a network
mining for leads
managing the interview
coping with stress
landing your job
Note: Other relevant information is shared with participants depending on their wants and needs.

Dr. Walt Doering, who has extensive professional experience working with jobless workers, serves as coordinator of the groups.
