UPDATE: 2008 — Much to be thankful for!!!
The Thanksgiving Basket Outreach Program is designed to meet not only the food needs of people but also to plant seeds of salvation in homes in Kokomo. Partnering with Darrough Elementary School and our own Virtual Listener (neighborhood presence) program, we obtain a list of families requiring food baskets containing their Thanksgiving meal. We also rely on church members to submit names of people they feel might need a basket.
We have partnered with Family Video for the past 5 years and they have grown in support every year. The first year we were able to deliver 20 baskets the weekend before Thanksgiving. This year we delivered 55 baskets. The MSC youth group spent most of Saturday delivering and the congregation took care of the rest.
We have emails from many of those who delivered the baskets that warm both touch your heart and break it. There is much to do. But out thanks go out to those who took time and gave of their resources to show God’s love in a practical way.
Last year your SIL team delivered 50 complete Thanksgiving dinners to the community served by Darrough Elementary School (DES). We will provide a fresh 15-20 lb turkey, dressing and even a roasting pan. We also provide the ‘fixins’ for candied yams, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and cake for dessert.
Our friends from Family Video are providing dozens of turkeys and hams but we have requests for 75 dinners this year….In the field of opportunity, it’s plowing time again. You can help.
Here is a list of what we need for 75 families in addition to turkeys:
Over 35,000 times so far this year someone has received a random act of kindness from your SIL team. We are blessed to give away what God provides. And we hope those ‘acts’ of kindness inspire hurting people to see His love. It’s not about us
