Open House at Darrough Elementary School

Posted by servinginlove on August 15, 2007

Sometimes the pictures tell a better story.  We were invited to Darrough and so we came to show God’s love in a practical way.  We packed up School Supplies for each student, food and cold drinks, and we brought a couple of our favorite toys to play with.

Why do we do it?  To show God’s Love in a Practical Way….Just ask Cameron

We need Mentors….Come to MSC this Sunday

Posted by servinginlove on August 8, 2007

MapThis Sunday teachers from Darrough School will be at our services (Morning Star Church) to help us make an appeal for mentors to serve in the Kokomo School System this year.  While our focus is for tutors at Darrough, we invite other faith-based organizations to come and listen if you have ANY inkling that this might be your calling.

This will be our 5th year at Darrough and anyone in the school system or the faith-based community will tell you it is a model program.  God has touched this effort in a special way and we are working to help others learn how to create the relationships and deliver the services our teachers and children need and appreciate.

If you are one of the 3000 regular subscribers to this blog or the nearly 4000 monthly readers, please make plans to be at Morning Star this Sunday at 9:30 am.  You will get an opportunity to serve and to touch the future.

August 14th – Darrough Street Fair and DES Open House

Posted by servinginlove on August 8, 2007

On Tuesday (weather forecast looks GREAT!) the SIL Team will be at DarroughBooks Elementary  School’s (DES) yard with a street fair for the entire neighborhood, and we will welcome students and parents to the DES Open House.  The FREE fun begins at 3 pm andDarrough lasts until 6 pm.  We have food, drinks, games, and …FUN.

3-4 pm We are welcoming the neighborhood to come to the street fair.  Playground equipment, those amazing blow-up toys from American Rentals, and a real carnival.  It is a great time to meet the school staff, tour the property, and celebrate our summer outreaches.

4-5 pm We are serving hot dogs with all the fixins, cold drinks, and popcorn in the spacious school yard.  We will have music, games, and lots of things to do.

5-6 pm Parents meet with teachers, and the kids are invited to a live program of songs and games.  Upon leaving, SIL has bags with ALL the supplies every student needs – FREE of course, and Darrough School has a special “treat’ for everyone.

Do not miss this one, neighbors, DES alumni, and current students and families are all guests of honor at this event.
