Wednesday started off just great. 41 people got free legal advice in our partnership with Kokomo Urban Outreach and caring (not from Howard County) attorneys who volunteered time and space to listen and help. Every time we meet someone new we find a fresh set of talents and we create a new relationship based on God’s great love. We met farmers, artists, musicians, mechanics and carpenters who needed a little advice and now are willing to give back. We met business owners, entrepreneurs and retirees who want to just give back.
Then we went to the Connection for our tutoring session. We had the most encouraging conversation with the grandmother of two of our “summer” kids. In a nutshell, she and her husband were driving home from the Greentown area and were talking about how they had been praying about finding a tutor for their grandchild. There is not much money available so they had been praying for a very inexpensive solution as well.
Wouldn’t you know, they were slowed by traffic on the highway and when they looked over they saw the markee in front of Morning Star Church. It read “Free Tutoring“. Needless to say those kids are having a great time with Cameron and the team. And Grandma has a wonderful story to tell about the power of prayer!
We had walk-ins for Wonderful Wednesday from Darrough for our professional services. We enjoyed the kids and company, and we watched the skies. We debated the weather for the evening Park Band concert in Highland. The SIL team was divided; some wanted to cancel, some wanted to go ahead (we have to get to the park and start popping corn about 5:30).
Well, it rained. So, even though the Park Band was there for the concert, we didn’t go. And it rained. We are always sorry when the weather cancels the event, and this was a special concert. But we are READY for next week, the biggest concert of the season (4th of July!)
See you on the 4th!!!

Wednesday’s are wonderful for the Serving in Love Team. At 8:00 am we began the day with an outreach health clinic in cooperation with several other churches. 47 people received free exams, prescriptions and basic care. Everyone was offered free cholesterol and blood pressure tests.
Next we moved to the Connection for free tutoring and arts
classes. We even had a story reader today.
It is great to see the kids as they learn and grow.
We only wish we had more tutors so we could welcome more kids for the program and free learning. How about you? Just click the link and sign up.
Finally after tutoring, we headed to Highland Park for the Kokomo Park Band concert. What a crowd. Over 1200 people and we could keep up with the free popcorn and cold drinks!!

WOW!! Is this going to be some season! It was the largest opening day crowd we have ever seen and they consumed over 1400 Cokes and bags of popcorn.
Serving in Love was there to make a 90 degree day a little more more “cooler”, but the Kokomo Park Band had all the cool anyone could ever want. If you weren’t there, you missed a great concert.
We’ll be there EVERY week….so come on out and see us, get a bottle of water, Coke, and a bag of popcorn — Absolutely free, just like God’s love.
Popcorn and drinks from 6 pm until the Band starts at 8pm. (Maybe a little after). Don’t forget to ask about our free tutoring at the Connection this summer when you see us.

The weather was fantastic, the b
ugs were few, and the smiles were many! We kicked off another summer of serving popcorn and coke at the park on Wed
nesday, June 6th, and had a good time doing it. Ed brought a trailer-full of beverages (which will prove more valuable to the people we serve as the summer continues to heat up) and two popcorn machines and we got started early, preparing for whoever was going to come our way. We got warm responses from ap
preciative park-goers who had
come to hear the music of t
he
military band, and we learned a thing or two about salting popcorn. While we waited for people to arrive, Cameron and Alex ventured out elsewhere in the park with a wagon’s worth of popcorn and beverages to offer to the many people who came to Highland Park on this beautiful evening.
We’re looking forward to next Wednesday, June 13th when Kokomo officially starts it’s Music in the Park series–we’re expecting many more people and we’re hoping for more volunteers to help us as well!

The 38th Division Band (National Guard) stationed in Indy kicks off the Summer park concert season with traditional military band fare on JUNE 6th. We will have the cool drinks and popcorn. Click this link for information – Guard Band
For over 100 years, the Kokomo Park Band has performed a free community concert. The band performs every Wednesday from June until August. It is as close as you can get to being “inside” a Norman Rockwell painting. The setting, the music, the people, it’s truly middle America! Do not miss it.
Four years ago, SIL began serving the thousands of families and
neighbors
who come to Highland Park every week, free popcorn and cold soda (Coke products) or bottled water. We are pleased that our friends at Coca Cola have agreed to sponsor us again this year.
New this year we have been asked to add an early concert – performed by our men and women who have service in the military. Serving in Love has been asked to provide drinks and popcorn for the 38th division Bands Concert JUNE 6th. We will be there!!
Attendance is between 1000 and 1400 each week and everyone gets all the popcorn and cool drinks each of them want and it is always free. We love it when they ask us, “Why are you doing this?”
Check out the Park Band website. The concerts are a true local treasure, and you just can’t beat the hot popcorn and refreshing soda.
