Somehow our traditional gift to remind our community of the impending “Spring Forward” time change is the light bulb. Seems simple, but we wonder how we came up with the idea. Oh well, everybody needs a light bulb!
We were able to reach about 151 households today with a simple gift of a of 60 watt light bulb. We hit every house in Darrough Chapel and this time, we talked as before – but we also listened, and the response we got was amazing. Quite a number of people wanted to know why we were doing it, and when we said ‘We want to show you God’s love in a practical way – and we wanted to remind you to set your clock forward this weekend!’, people were really taken aback, typically saying ‘That’s really nice, thanks’.
Quite a few people remembered we had done various other SE events in the community, and are always pleased to see us back again. This was especially encouraging as we are really hoping to build relationships and trust. We had a great group of people who responded to the request on the blog…Thank you for your help! We literally swamped the neighborhood. It created a great atmosphere!
We had a few bulbs left so we asked the neighborhood drug store (Walgreen’s) if they would hand them out and they did!
